How to Make Slow Cooker Apricot Chicken

This recipe is best made with chicken thighs that still have the bone in and the skin on. You’ll also need French dressing, dry onion soup and apricot jam. That’s all there is to this recipe. Simple isn’t it?

ingredients for apricot chicken

Place the chicken thighs in the bottom of the slow cooker and mix together the other ingredients to form a sauce. Once ready, pour the sauce over the chicken thighs, ensuring you cover them completely.

Now depending on how quickly you want this to be ready, you can either cook on low for 7-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours.

When ready, your chicken should be well cooked and fall off the bone tender. Serve over a bed of rice with a bit of sauce over the rice as well for extra flavor, if desired.

I know this might sound sill question but Is apricot preserve the same as apricot jam?

    • Fast & Slow Cooking says

Good question. Yes it is. Thanks for asking!

  2. Jacqueline Fedie says

Although your recipe reads correctly, you may want to change your introductory comments for the slow cooker version, where it reads: “you can either cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 7-8”. Low and high are mixed up!

I absolutely love this recipe and I’ve already bought the ingredients to make it again! I used the Russian dressing and I loved the taste and how easy it was to make. I sent the recipe to my sister, my daughter and my best friend. Thank you for the recipe

My grocery store didn’t have apricot preserves, I know strange, so I used peach preserves instead and the chicken was amazing. It had a nice mahogany color. The chicken thighs were fork tender. I did thicken the sauce with a little cornstarch. This recipe is definitely a keeper.

I made this recipe and LOVED it, however I bought boneless and skinless chicken thighs. I made everything else the same as the original recipe, except I slow cooked it for only 3 hours on HIGH. It came out super tender and juicy. I added a corn starch slurry into the sauce at the end, and stirred to thicken it. Husband loved it so much.
